Spacious & cozy 2-bedroom, 1-bathroom self-contained private guest apartment — a tranquil haven for anyone seeking a lovely home-away-from-home experience. Available for short- or long-term rentals. Enjoy a serene & peaceful atmosphere where numerous published authors have found inspiration to write. This apartment is in the family home of a retired college administrator (arts and music) (husband) and an author/editor and life coach (wife).

Our priority & commitment is to provide a safe & clean environment. Fragrant-free & as allergy & MCS-friendly as possible. Pet-free. Smoke/vape-free. High-speed internet is suitable for most work-from-home situations. Hosts reside in a separate suite on-site.

 

THE SPACE: Drive up our country-like lane with overarching trees and surrounding woods and . . . welcome to "the other side of busy."

We fell in love with the home and its surroundings 28+ years ago and then discovered that a famous Canadian author, William C. Heine (1919-1991), had built it. He was a newspaper editor and novelist, best known for The Last Canadian, a science fiction novel filmed as The Patriot starring Steven Seagal. Heine wrote two novels and eight non-fiction books. This IS indeed a wonderful place to write! Guests are usually surprised at how spacious and comfortable our guest apartment is. 

The rooms are well-appointed, with an eclectic mix of vintage and modern furnishings. We have almost everything guests need to make it just like home. The home has central forced-air natural gas heating and air conditioning, updated in October 2020 to include ultra-violet (UV) technology. We are green-oriented, recycling, and composting.

Kitchen - For guests who love to cook, the kitchen has various cooking and dishware, including a few extras like a slow cooker and rice cooker. Laundry - A shared laundry room (with hosts) is available for convenience. We launder all linens and towels with laundry detergent, "Unscented and Hypoallergenic for Sensitive Skin, Free and Clear of Dyes and Perfumes."

GUEST ACCESS: The guest accommodation is completely self-contained and dedicated to our guests; it is private by virtue of its own entrance. It is in our home, separate from our accommodations. Many guests like this arrangement because we are on-site and available.

CONNECT WITH NATURE: The outdoor amenities include a fireplace, BBQ, a covered terrace to hide from the sun or stay outside when it rains, an open terrace overlooking the garden, and privacy. Tuck away and read on the patio, terrace, or in the garden. Take a stroll around the neighborhood. We are in a park-like setting on a 3/4 acre serene natural treed setting. There is plenty of free parking.

NO PETS POLICY: Animals create a health hazard to the hosts. We appreciate your compassion and ask you to book alternative accommodation for you and your service/emotional support animal instead. Dogs and cats—whether a pet or assistance, service, or emotional support animal—are a health issue for the hosts. We mention this in our listing to avoid any potential disappointment. We appreciate your understanding and compassion.

OTHER THINGS TO NOTE: We have been providing extended temporary guest accommodation for 30+ years. Our home is quiet and an ideal home-away-from-home while you are here for work, sabbaticals, fellowships, or upgrading your education/training, etc.
